PM Dung highlights role of overseas Vietnamese in Laos
(VOV) - Vietnamese nationals in Laos should play a greater role in strengthening the special solidarity between the two countries, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
PM Dung made this statement on September 9 at a meeting in Vientiane with representatives from the Vietnamese embassy and the Overseas Vietnamese Association during his ongoing official friendship visit to Laos.
He appreciated the solidarity and unity of the nearly 30,000 Vietnamese people living in Laos, as well as the remarkable contributions the Vietnamese embassy has made to boosting friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
Mr Dung emphasized that Vietnam-Laos relations have been nurtured by generations of leaders from both countries. The Vietnamese and Lao people have also fought together against foreign invaders for their national independence and reunification, he noted.
The Vietnamese PM expressed his gratitude for those Vietnamese solders who laid down their lives in battlefields in Laos in the past war.
He also said he hopes Vietnamese citizens in Laos will continue to uphold their traditional cultural values and make contributions to their home country.
Mr Dung stated that about 3.5 million Vietnamese are currently living and working in more than 100 countries and territories around the world. He affirmed the Party and State’s incentive policies for overseas Vietnamese, saying they are an indispensable part of the Vietnamese people.
