Over 30 opium addicts have been reportedly rehabilitated from the Lao-Chinese Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre, Sing district, Luang Namtha.
The rehabilitated are the second batch ever rehabilitated in the centre. The centre held a meeting on the completion of medical treatment and rehabilitation for the drug addicts on September 2 in the presence of Office Head of the Provincial Commission on Drug Control and Supervision of Luang Namtha, Mr. Nansisouphanh Chantapaseuth, Vice Chief Administrator of Sing, Mr. Bounleuth Douangngeun, and relevant authorities.
Rehabilitation for the opium addicts has been carried out since August 11 and most of them are from eight villages in two districts, Sing and Long, according to staff of the Lao-Chinese Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre, Mr. Nanlue Phoummachanh.
Besides to medical treatment and rehabilitation for drug addicts in the centre, public education on drug menace and laws and regulations on drugs and law punishment against drug users have been carried out and disseminated, according to Mr. Nanlue.
The Lao-Chinese Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre has been established under the Lao-Chinese Cooperation on Agro-Technical Development Project with the financial support from the Chinese government, said Mr. Nanlue. He said that the centre will further rehabilitate and provide medical treatment to several dozens of opium addicts in the two districts of Sing and Long.
