Luang Namtha further demolishes illicit opium farms
The Committee for Drug Control and Supervision of Luang Namtha district took into account the demolition of illicit opium poppy farm through disseminated campaign on drug law last year.
Under the campaign, the target villages have been trained on negative result of illicit drugs.
A urine test for students in the target schools has also been carried out and four villages have so far relied on opium poppy cultivation have been trained on planting other cash crops instead of opium farms.
Over the past one year, almost 30 families in eight villages have been reported that they still plant illicit opium poppy cultivation on over 30 ha and about 290 people still addict opium.
The said information has been briefed at a recent meeting of Luang Namtha Committee for Drug Control and Supervision.
This year, the number of opium users increase by 463 people. The concerned sector has just rehabilitated 67 opium addicts.
240 students were found using amphetamine, according to the urine test.
