Vietnamese police have busted a large-scale heroin smuggling ring and arrested two Laotian citizens for trafficking nearly 40 kilos of drug into the country.
Arrested drug traffickers arrested
Bun Thoong and Kham Chan were caught red-handed while illegally transporting 10 heroin cakes from Laos to Vietnam.
Vietnamese police detected the two Laotian criminals who regularly trafficked heroin from the neighbouring country through the northern province of Dien Bien.
On October 10, Vietnamese drug criminal prevention police, in co-ordination with the Borderguard High Command, and local forces and police in the Laos province of Phong Xa Ly set up a joint working group to deal with the ring.
The working group smashed the ring while the offenders were trafficking heroin through the Vietnam-Laos borderline running through Phong Xa Ly Province’s Muong May District. They arrested Bun Thoong, 46, and Kham Chan, 43, who both live in Kui Co Cham hamlet in Muong May District.
The police seized 10 heroin cakes and found an additional 38 kilos of heroin at the traffickers’ houses.
They have handed over the case to Laotian police in Phong Xa Ly Province for further investigation.
