Laos ranks 138th, says UN’s human development report 2011
The United Nations released on Wednesday Human Development Report 2011 saying the Lao People Democratic Republic ranks 138th, one place higher than Cambodia but ten places lower than Vietnam.
Despite of being rank 138th, the Lao PDR is in the medium human development category, which sees 47 entrants including Cambodia, China (101st), Indonesia (124th), Thailand (103rd), the Philippines (112th) and Vietnam.
The human development index of the Lao PDR has seen a gradual increase over the last eleven years climbing from 0.376 in 1990 to 0.524 this year.
Norway, Australia and the Netherlands lead the world in the 2011 Human Development Index (HDI), while the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Niger and Burundi are at the bottom of the Human Development Report’s annual rankings of national achievement in health, education and income.
