A Lao delegation led by Foreign Minister (FM) Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith attended the ASEAN Foreign Minister Meeting and the Meeting of the Committee for Southeast Asian Nuclear Weapon Free Zone Treaty opened in Bali , Indonesia on Nov. 15.
According to the source from the ministry of foreign affairs, the Asean foreign minister meeting has discussed a number of issues including the proposal to be a member of the ASEAN Amity and Cooperation Treaty of non-ASEAN countries, especially the official proposal of Brazil, the proposal to be the member of ASEAN of Timor Leste.
The foreign minister of ASEAN also discussed the global and regional issues of mutual concern such the assistances to the ASEAN member countries who suffered from the natural disaster.
FM Thongloun Sisoulith has took this opportunity to express thanks to all ASEAN member countries for their kind assistance to the flooded victims in Laos.
The meeting on the Treaty on the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone has reviewed the implementation of the Treaty on the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone, especially the preparation for membership of the Treaty of the five nuclear power nations of China, England, France, Russia and the United States of America.
Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith has informed the meeting that Laos has become a member of the Southeast Asian Nuclear Weapon Free Zone Treaty on October, 2011.
FM Thongloun Sisoulith also attended the 6th Meeting of the ASEAN Political-Security Community Council and 9th meeting for ASEAN coordinating council held on 16 November.
