(KPL) Vientiane, Nov 23 – Over 40 linguistics, writers, editors and officials under the umbrella of the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism met to discuss the current use of Lao language.
The meeting provided the participants an opportunity to share their points of view on how to find a solution for the current use of the national language so that it can be used uniformly.
“At present, the public is using incorrect words in speaking or writing as this form of practice is prevalent in newspapers, magazines, posters, books, televisions and radios,” said Head of the Publishing and Distributing Department Siviengkhek Konnivong.
“Even Laos is a small and least developed country, it has its own language while some big countries have no their own languages. Therefore we should exert our efforts in conserving our language,” said Mr. Siviengkhek.
The Department of Printing and Distributing is going to make a book compiling the most common flaws in using the national language and points of view on how the public fails to have a uniform use of the language, according to the official.
