Vientiane, Dec 16 – The amended draft law on drugs and medical products was discussed at the ordinary session by lawmakers.
Deputy Minister of Health Bounkong Syhavong at the NA's 2nd ordinary session
Deputy Minister of Health Bounkong Syhavong, who presented a draft to members of the National Assembly, said that the amendment of the law was to ensure the management of quality of drugs and medical products and their safety for consumers, as well as the promotion of drug-related business, domestically and internationally.
Mr. Bounkong said that the amendment was aimed at not only facilitating the socio-economic development in the country but also to ensuring the national integration into the World Trade system and promoting fair competition among drug-related entrepreneurs.
He said that the current law had several loopholes and was unsuitable with the current conditions of development and resulted in its ineffective enforcement. “Some medical officials are not yet to face lawful punishment although they have abused,” said Mr. Bounkong.
The current law on drugs and medical products was endorsed in 2000.
Last Thursday’s session was under the co-presidency of Vice-Presidents of the National Assembly Saysomphone Phomvihane and Somphanh Phengkhammy.
