Wildlife animal traders were seized with the possession of over 50 kg of prohibited wildlife-dead and alive at Phonsavang market, Chanthaboury district, Vientiane Capital, on 18 January.
The wildlife animals have been seized by the authorities of Vientiane Forest Investigation Division in cooperation with Forestry Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry after the inspection. This is thanks to a regular inspection carrying out four times monthly.
The inspection will be then conducted at the boutique shops, Morning market and hotels featuring animal bones and elephant ivories.
Merchants have been warned as writing for the first time. If they continue doing so, they will be punished as the law identified, said Head of Wildlife and Aquatic Animals Protection Unit, Mr. Viengsay Am-mata.
The seized wildlife animal including 36 alive turtles and seven snakes will be then brought to release back to their habitats and dead wildlife animals will be burned.
