State President’s visit elevates VN-Laos ties

VGP - The current visit by Vietnamese State President Trương Tấn Sang to Laos is said to  contribute greatly to bringing special friendly relations between the two countries to a new height.

This was affirmed by General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and Lao President Choummaly Sayasone on February 9 in Vientiane during his talks with the visiting Vietnamese leader.

The Lao President said the state visit, the first to Laos of State President Sang as the head of state, is significant, beginning a series of activities to mark the 50th founding anniversary of bilateral relations.

State President Sang said Việt Nam wants to bolster its special friendly ties between with Laos in the future.

He said he believes that Laos will reap greater achievements in improving the standard of living of its people, developing the country and enhancing its role and status in the region as well as in the world.

After the talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of a protocol on training Lao human resources in Việt Nam and the two countries’ education cooperation plan in 2012; a memorandum of understanding on VietinBank’s credits for the Lao Central Bank; and the hand-over of licenses to two Vietnamese enterprises to mine salt and assist construction of schools and development of social security in Laos, totaling US $6.6 million.

The same day, State President Trương Tấn Sang met with Lao PM Thoongsing Thammavong and Lao National Assembly Chairman Pany Yathotou.
