Vietnam, Laos strengthen judicial co-operation

Nhan Dan - The Vietnamese and Lao judicial sectors have agreed to continue promoting judicial co-operation between the two countries to maintain social security and order on both sides.

This agreement was reached during the Vietnam Ministry of Justice visit to Laos from March 6 – 11 for talks with their Lao counterparts, made at the invitation of Laos Minister of Justice, Chaleune Yiapaoheu.

The Vietnamese delegation, led by Justice Minister Ha Hung Cuong, was received by Lao Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong on March 7.

The two sides reached consensus on future co-operation programmes for training human resources and exchanging experiences in building laws, as well as direct co-operation between local judiciary organs.

During the talks, the two Ministries planned to establish a Vietnamese Law centre and open a training course for legislative officials in Laos.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on research and training co-operation was also signed between the Law Universities in both countries.

The Lao PM praised the effective co-operation between the judicial sectors in the two countries and asked for further co-operation towards the socio-economic development of both sides.

The Vietnamese delegation will also attend other activities during their stay in Laos.
