Japanese Embassy gives text books to 11 schools in Xiengkhouang
Text books and school furniture were officially handed over from the representative of Embassy of Japan, Ms. Akiko TOMITA (second secretary of Embassy of Japan) to Dr. Boualy PHANNAVONG (Director of the Provincial Education and Sports of Xiengkhouang), teachers and students of Namthae Primary School and villagers at the Namthae Primary School in Kham District of Xiengkhouang Province on 27th March.
Students start to use newly provided school furniture
The Grant aid project totaling US$56,090 was agreed in 2011.
Last year, Xiengkhouang Province was hit by Haima typhoon and 11 schools (9 primary schools and 2 secondary schools) were submerged by the flood caused by the storm.
After the flood, Embassy of Japan, Ministry of Education and Sports and the Education and Sports Service of Xiengkhouang Province discussed how to deal with these damaged schools.
As a result of discussion, Embassy of Japan decided to provide 5,614 text books and 575 sets of desks and chairs for 1,333 students, 120 teacher’s guide and 50 sets of desks and chair for teachers, book shelf and black boards to replace damaged text books and school furniture.
According to Embassy of Japan, in order to renew deep appreciation to the warm support extended by the Government and people of the Lao PDR to Japan when Japan was struck by the Great East Japan Earthquake last year, Japanese Government attaches great significance to the emergency aid when the Lao PDR faces difficult situation caused by natural disaster.
Embassy of Japan has small grants for emergency aid and further welcomes receiving request from villages which need emergency aid and have concrete plans to overcome difficulty caused by natural disaster
