Nhan Dan/VNA – A memorial service was held on May 21 in the northwestern province of Dien Bien to reinter the remains of 32 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and specialists who were killed in the battlefields of Laos.
The remains were discovered in the northern Lao provinces of Luang Namtha, Phongsaly, Udomxay and Luang Prabang by a search team from the Dien Bien Military Command Military Zone 2, which worked in co-ordination with the Lao army and people over the past 12 months.
Following the memorial service and incense offering, the 32 sets of remains were reburied at the Doc Lap (Independence) Martyrs’ Cemetery in Thanh Nua commune, Dien Bien district.
This is the first time in 2012 that the province has received the remains of fallen soldiers and experts from the neighbouring country.
