Lao doctors study specialist techniques in Singapore
Lao doctors have gained important new medical expertise from their Singaporean colleagues from Gleneagles Hospital, which will allow them to provide better treatment to patients in Laos.
A senior surgeon from Mahosot Hospital, Dr Phouvong Vongphakdee, was one of two doctors who attended the ‘Seminar on Beating Gastrointestinal Diseases – Advances in Medical and Surgical Options in Singapore
On reflection after the seminar, he said he considered medical care in Singapore, especially in Gleneagles Hospital, to be extremely advanced.
“Mahosot is currently upgrading its medical facilities, aiming to be a modern hospital in years to come,” he said.
During the three-day seminar in Singapore, doctors from Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Russia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Myanmar and Malaysia listened to lectures from their colleagues from Singapore.
The Singaporean doctors speoke about haemorrhoidal diseases, advances in the treatment of anal fistulas and anal fissures and advanced laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer. Other topics included gallstones and scarless single incision laproscopic surgery, stomach cancer, management of viral hepatitis B and C and hepatocellular carcinoma.
The Chief Executive Officer of Gleneagles Hospital, Dr Kok Mun Foong and Presidents of the Organising Committee of the seminar, Dr Chuang Hsuan Hong and Dr Constance Lo also attended the event.
