The Drug Control Department, under the Thanh Hoa Provincial Border Guard Command, the Son La Provincial Police and Border Guards, and Laos’ Houaphan Provincial Police have broken a drug trafficking ring and arrested two suspects.
Thao Xay Vang and Nang Da Ly, a couple from Sam Neua town, Houaphan Province, were captured on October 11th in Na Noong Bua hamlet, Sam Neua town and charged with drug smuggling after authorities seized 1kg of opium.
Pursuing the case, on October 12th, the joint forces searched the two suspects’ house and seized 116kg of heroin, 170,000 kip (Lao currency), 2 guns, 2 grenades, and chemicals for drug processing. The following day, they found 100g of heroin, drug paraphernalia and US $50,000 near the suspects’ house.
According to the Vietnamese and Lao forces, the suspects bought these drugs in Oudomxay and planned to sell them in Vietnam.
