Laotian couple planned to bring 116 kg of heroin to Vietnam, arrested

The Lao police have arrested a couple who planned to traffic around 116 kilograms of heroin into Vietnam.

They found the drugs at the house of Thao Xay Vang, 49, and his wife Nang Da Ly, 45, in Hua Phan Province after catching them with one kilogram of heroin on the road, news website Dan Tri reported Wednesday.

The police also found equipment and ingredients for making heroin, US$4,400 in cash, two guns, and two bombs.

The couple said they had bought the heroin from around the country, and planned to sell it all in Vietnam.

Further investigations are underway.

Drug trafficking from Laos to Vietnam has been rampant, with many arrests being made this year.

Between April and early September police reportedly busted at least six trafficking operations, arresting several Laotians and Vietnamese and seizing dozens of kilograms of heroi

But the arrested gangsters said they had trafficked hundreds of kilograms for years from Laos to Vietnam, sometimes even to China.

Vietnam has some of the world’s toughest drug laws. Those convicted of smuggling more than 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kilograms of meth face the death penalty
