A meeting for nearly 400 former Lao students who studied in Vietnam and now hold key positions in their country was held by the Vietnamese embassy in Laos to mark Vietnam’s National Day (September 2).
Vietnamese Ambassador Ta Minh Chau said the gathering aimed to help tighten the traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries.
On behalf of the Lao alumni, Kykeo Khaykhamphithun, Director of the Lao National Academy for Politics and Public Administration (LNA); Nam Viyaket, Minister of Industry and Commerce; and Dr Khampheuy Panmalaythong, Director of the Lao National Social Sciences Institute; expressed their gratitude to the Vietnamese Party, State and people and pledged to actively promote the traditional relationship between the two countries.
Earlier the same day, the Vietnamese Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Hoang Tuan Anh, attended a ceremony to hand over the first phase of the project to build the Lao National Academy of Culture and Art, a gift from the Vietnamese Government to the Lao people.
The academy covers a total area of around 3,000m2 and consists of three triple-storey blocks.
The second phase of the project will be launched in 2012 and will include constructing a dormitory, and installing audio and visual equipment for teaching and study.
