Promoting broadcasting cooperation between Vietnam-Laos

(VOV) - Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) and Lao National Radio signed a document on cooperation on September 5 in Hanoi.

The signatories for Vietnam were VOV General Director Nguyen Dang Tien and Deputy Director General Dao Duy Hua, while Director General of Lao National Radio,Sipha Nonglath, and Counsellor of Culture and Education for the Lao embassy in Vietnam signed on behalf of Laos.

Speaking at the event, VOV General Director Tien emphasized the special cooperative friendship between VOV and Lao National Radio. The good relations continue to be strengthened and developed, marked by bilateral agreements on broadcasting in 1990, 1994, 2000, and 2008.

Every year the two radios exchange four or five delegations of leaders, reporters, editors, technicians and broadcasters to study, exchange experiences and write articles.

The two sides also exchange documentaries, tapes and programmes to introduce the landscape, people and political, economic and cultural achievements of Vietnam and Laos to listeners in both countries.

Following the guidance of the Party Central Committee, VOV appointed technicians to Laos in 2007 and 2008 to survey, create and complete a project to improve the quality of FM frequency coverage in Luongnamtha province.

Under the project’s framework, VOV has assisted Laos with building one 5KW FM radio station to help Lao National Radio widen its coverage and raise the quality of the frequency in Luongnamtha province.

Since 2008, VOV has worked on the project to build the Luong Prabang Video Image Radio Station. The project was completed in 2010, and was officially opened and handed over to Lao side in March, 2011.

VOV General Director Tien confirmed that in recent times, both sides have successfully implemented their bilateral agreements, and visits by the two leaders have tightened the special relationship between VOV and Lao National Radio.

Director General of Lao National Radio,Sipha Nonglath, expressed his pleasure at visiting and working with VOV on the occasion of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2) and the 66th anniversary of VOV (September 7, 1945-September 7, 2011).

Mr. Nonglath said there was a Vietnam Culture Week in Laos over the past few days and Lao National Radio covered the event impressively, reflecting Vietnam’s renewal process and economic development over the past 66 years.

In the near future, Lao National Radio will focus on reporting about the Resolutions of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) 9th National Congress and Vietnam’s 11th National Party Congress.

Mr. Nonglath also said that the signing of the cooperative document will be a driving force to boost comprehensive cooperation between the two sides in the future, and he hopes that VOV will continue to support Laos in building more local radio stations.

Boosting Vietnam-Cambodia broadcasting cooperation

Also, on September 5, VOV General Director Nguyen Dang Tien received a high-level delegation from the National Radio of Cambodia, led by Director General Ton Yan.

The delegation paid a working visit to VOV from September 4-9 and also attended a meeting to celebrate 66 years of VOV’s establishment.

Addressing the event, VOV General Director Tien said the Party, Government and people of Vietnam and Cambodia have traditionally had a strong attachment, which has provided the basis for a good relationship between VOV and the National Radio of Cambodia.

He also expressed his belief that the special relations will continue to grow and develop in the future.

The Cambodian Director General, Ton Yan, emphasized that since 1978, the two sides have established close professional and technological ties, and in recent years, cooperation between the two Radios has been stepped up.

The Cambodian side affirmed they hoped the cooperation will continue to develop and rise to a new level.

During their stay in Vietnam, the Cambodian delegation will visit the EMICO Company, which belongs to VOV and specializes in supplying broadcasting equipment.
