Additional border demarcation between Laos and Vietnam meets over half way
Laos and Vietnam have already installed nearly 500 border marks, out of a total figure of 828 additional border marks along common border defining since 2009.
A total figure of additional border marks accounts for 78% of which 59% have been installed, according to the 4th meeting of Joint Commissions of Border Demarcation between Laos and Vietnam in Vientiane Capital, on 23-24 November.

The meeting highly evaluated to previous achievement of Additional Border Demarcation Project and maintained border system in the period of 2010-2011, which saw progress and defined more 186 border marks, of which 166 points have been installed.
Lao delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Bounkeuth Sangsomsack met Vietnamese counterpart Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ho Xuan Son, in a bid to more obviously define the border between the two nations.
They reviewed and assessed the outcome of implementation of additional border demarcation project and previous bilateral meeting of two commissions held last year.
The meeting has also discussed next year action plan for definition of additional boundary demarcation in real landscape, which the two country schedule to complete by 2014.
The additional border demarcation reflected the intention of the two parties and two governments to establish a legal and historical symbol for mutual border management as part of ensuring the tradition of special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam.
