Border landmarks between Vietnam and Lao to be finished in 2012

The 21st yearly meeting between the Vietnamese and Lao border delegations was held from December 24th to 25th in Hanoi.
The two parties agreed that the two sides have well coordinated in the implementation of the Agreement on Border Regulations and other bilateral agreements related to border and territorial issues over the past year.
However, the two parties also pointed to several limitations in the management of the borderline between the two nations and agreed that the management of the borderline should be actively participated and closely coordinated by involved ministries, branches and localities of the two countries in the future.
The two sides also committed to gear up the pace of the implementation of the Project “Increasing and upgrading the border landmark system between Laos and Vietnam in order to finish the border landmark planting work in 2012 and to gradually recognize all the landmarks by 2014 under the two countries’ leaders’ guidelines.
