Nhan Dan – The northern province of Lao Cai will build its own civil airport in Gia Phu commune, Bao Thang district, announced the provincial People’s Committee on January 14.
The Lao Cai airport, 20 kilometres south of the provincial capital, will cover 138.9 hectares with a runway 1,800 metres long and 30 metres wide and a 3,000 square metre terminal designed to handle up to 250 passengers an hour.
It has a total investment of nearly VND1.5 trillion (US$72 million) sourced from the State budget.
The airport will be used to transport passengers to the resort town of Sapa and Hekou county in China’s Yunnan province, as well as for search and rescue missions.
