President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Truong Tan Sang is scheduled to arrive in Vientiane today for a three-day official goodwill visit to Laos.
The visit by the Vietnamese president, his wife and their delegation from February 9 to 11 is in response to an invitation from President Choummaly Sayasone, according to an announcement from the President's Office.
President Sang was born on January 21, 1949, in Long An province, Vietnam, and has a bachelor degree in law. He was elected as President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam by the 13th session of the National Assembly on July 25, 2011.

1966-1975: Joined the revolution.
1975-1983: Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of suburban farms and agricultural economic units in Ho Chi Minh City.
1983-1986: In charge of voluntary youth affairs, rural economic recovery and forestry in Ho Chi Minh City.
1986-1991: Member of the Municipal Communist Party of the Vietnam Standing Committee, Secretary of Binh Chanh district Party Committee, Ho Chi Minh City; Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Agriculture.
1991-1996: Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Communist Party of Vietnam Committee, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.
1996-2000: Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.
2000-2006: Member of the Politburo, Head of the Party Central Commission on Economic Affairs.
2006-2011: Member of the Politburo, standing member of the Central Party's Secretariat.
