VietNamNet Bridge – Doan Nguyen Duc’s group made the groundbreaking of a $40 million airport in Attapeu Province of Laos last weekend.

Hoang Anh Gia Lai's Chair Doan Nguyen Duc.

Chairman of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Group Doan Nguyen Duc said that the airport is expected to open in June 2013.

This is one of the two airport projects that Lao government licensed this group.

The airport will be built on 200 hectares, in two phases. In the first phase, 2013-2020, the airport will mainly serve small aircrafts like ATR 72, Fokker 70, etc. Since 2020, when the construction is complete, it will be available for big aircrafts like Airbus A323 and Boeing 777, etc.

The second airport project will be kicked off in early 2013, in Huaphanh province, in northeastern Laos.

The list of 100 richest stock millionaires made public

VietNamNet Bridge – The stock price fluctuations at the last trading session of the year helped Chair of the Ocean Group Ha Van Tham surpass the owner of Quoc Cuong Gia Lai – Nguyen Thi Nhu Loan and stay in the top 10 of the Vietnamese stock millionaires. The first and the second positions in the list of 100 richest stock millionaires, as anticipated, belong to Pham Nhat Vuong and Doan Nguyen Duc.

Mr Doan Nguyen Duc

Holding 168.5 million VIC shares after the last trading session of the year on December 30 at 99,500 dong per share, the owner of Vingroup Pham Nhat Vuong has, for the second time, become the richest man on the Vietnamese stock market. Vuong has the total stock assets valued at 16,764 billion dong.

With the total assets increasing by 988 billion dong over the last year’s level, Vuong has outdistanced the second richest millionaire – Doan Nguyen Duc, who has 4348 billion dong in stock assets. Duc’s assets have diminished by 70 percent due to the sharp falls of the HAG shares.

Pham Thu Huong, Vuong’s wife, has the total stock assets worth 2890 billion dong, an increase of 550 billion dong over the previous year, which has helped her jump from the sixth in the list of stock millionaires to the third position. She is topping the list of 50 richest women.

The other positions in the top 10 witness the big promotions of the shareholders of Masan Group – Nguyen Hoang Yen and Ho Hung Anh. The total assets of the two people allowed them to jump from the 12th and 13th last year to the fourth and sixth, respectively, this year. Yen has the total assets worth 1971 billion dong and Anh 1789 billion dong.

The fifth position belongs to Pham Thuy Hang, the sister of Pham Thu Huong, with the amount of VIC shares worth 1920 billion dong.

OGC share prices increased slightly at the last trading sessions of the year, which has helped Chair of Ocean Group Ha Van Tham surpass Quoc Cuong Gia Lai’s owner Nguyen Thi Nhu Loan and obtain the last position in the top 10. Tham’s total assets by the end of 2011 had reached 862 billion dong, while Loan ranks the 12th with 814 billion dong.

Two other familiar names have said goodbye to the top 10 – Chair of the Saigong Securities Incorporation SSI Nguyen Duy Hung and Chair of the Tan Tao Group Dang Thi Hoang Yen. With the total assets of 443.5 billion dong and 247 billion dong, the two “big guys” now rank the 22nd and 37th, respectively, in the 2011’s list.

Dang Thi Hoang Yen’s brother – Dang Thanh Tam, Chair of the Kinh Bac Urban Development and Investment Group – has also seen his assets decrease significantly due to the stock price falls. Tam’s assets have fallen by 70 percent to 1400 billion dong; therefore, Tam now ranks the 8th. The 7th and 9th positions belong to Nguyen Van Dat, a real estate developer, and Chair of Hoa Phat Group Tran Dinh Long.

2011 is believed to be a very difficult year for real estate developers. However, the list of 100 richest stock millionaires still shows the names of 30 representatives of the real estate sector. The total assets of the 30 people are 34 trillion dong, accounting for 63 percent of the total assets of the people in top 10.

In general, the total assets of the 100 richest stock millionaires in 2011 are more than 55,200 billion dong, a big decrease from the 86 trillion dong level of 2010, equal to 12 percent of the stock market capitalization.

The 10 richest people have the total assets reaching 34,730 billion dong, or 63 percent of the total assets of top 100.

73 people have the total assets of over 100 billion dong, including 20 people having more than 500 billion dong and 9 having more than one trillion dong.
