Lao and Vietnamese border military zones asked to boost cooperation
 

PANO - Lao and Vietnamese armies should better their force building and combat readiness practice, defensive exercise and boost cooperation and coordination among border military zones, between Military Headquarters and Border Guards of the two countries in managing and ensuring order and security at borders.

Senior Lieutenant-General Do Ba Ty, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnamese People’s Army cum Deputy-Defence Minister raised the issue at the reception given to Major-General Suvon Luongbunmi, Chief of the General Staff of the Lao People’s Army on May 28th at the Defence Ministry’s Headquarters in Hanoi.

Also at the reception, the two sides exchanged views on the situations in Vietnam, Laos, in the region and in the world as well as results of their cooperation in 2011.

Basing on the cooperation plan signed by the two Defence Ministries, General Ty suggested that the two sides should be active in embellishing and thickening landmarks; building peaceful, friendly and stable border lines and ensuring the security and national sovereignty over the territories of each country. Besides, both sides should improve education and training quality, develop human resources for the development of the country and the army.

Moreover, activities to mark 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Laos; 35th celebration of Day of Friendship Treaty signed and Vietnam-Laos Friendship-Solidarity Year 2012 should be jointly organised.

General Ty also stressed that through activities and work of propaganda and awareness-raising, troops of the two countries would further understand the significance and the importance of the strengthening of special relations between the two neighbouring countries and two armies.

He also asked the guest to continue creating favourable conditions for the work of gathering Vietnamese martyrs’ graves in Laos to meet the target of Special Working Board of the two Governments with an attempt to find out more than 1,000 remaining cases at the soonest time.

For his part, visiting Major General Suvon Luongbunmi emphasised the efficient and full implementation of the agreement signed by the two Defence Ministries on delegation exchanges at all levels, training assistance, cooperation on order and security protection at borders.

The guest put forward the continuity of the implementation of agreements nodded by the two sides’ Defence Ministry in the coming time.

The same day, senior military delegation of the Lao People’s Army, led by Major General Suvon Luongbunmi, visited the Command of Air-Force and Air-Defence Arm.

The delegation will stay in Vietnam until May 31st.
