Having a beer to unwind can cost a little or a lot in Asean. Alcohol in Asean varies widely both by price and consumption per capita. Attitudes to alcohol vary widely as well across societies and even within societies by different groups sometimes due to religious beliefs.
As a result, governments in the Association of Southeast Asian countries treat alcohol either as an evil that is not to be allowed or is to be restricted to a very high degree. In other cases, it is treated as an income source through taxes. In yet others, alcohol is simply a good way to relax and let one’s hair down and provided it is not carried to extremes.
